Identification combinations
Note, all forms of ID must be current;
Option 1
Primary Photo ID
Passport*
*Overseas Passport MUST be accompanied by either NZ citizen/permanent resident. Other residency options (e.g. temporary residents) are not acceptable.
Or other examples
- NZ Firearms licence
Proof of address dated in the last 12 months
Certification of documents
- All ID must be certified: certified copies must be completed by a trusted referee.
- Proof of address: Certified copies must be completed by a trusted referee.
Option 2
Primary non-photo ID
Full NZ Birth Certificate

Secondary photo ID
ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
- Bank statement or letter issued from a registered NZ bank
- NZ Central Government agency document (e.g. IRD,
- Work & Income, Studylink) with customer’s name
- Bank card with customer name and signature from a NZ bank
- SuperGold Card with customer’s name and signature
- Community Services Card with customer’s name and signature

Proof of address requirements
The simplest documents acceptable to confirm you address are (any one dated in the last 12 months):
- Rates or Utility bill
- Bank statement or letter from your bank
- Car registration
- IRD notices
- Letter from an employer
- Insurance policy documents

Certification Requirements
- Copies of ID must be clear. If they are not, we may require this to be redone
- Your ID must be current (not expired)
- Proof of Address must:
- Be addressed to you
- At the address you are currently living
- Dated in the last 12 months - Certification must be on the same page that your ID has been photocopied to
- Your ID must be certified by one of the following referee types: a Justice of the Peace, a Solicitor of a High Court, or a Notary Public, or a person who has the legal authority to take statutory declarations or the equivalent in New Zealand.
- The certification must include:
- the wording (or similar wording) which has been highlighted below
- the name of the trusted referee and their position e.g. JANE DOE – NOTARY PUBLIC
- the date it was completed
- The signature of the trusted referee
